Since I can look out of my window at home onto the Flensburg Fjord, an arm of the Baltic Sea, I enjoy being surrounded by maritime motifs: sailing harbors, sandy beaches, cliffs dotted with shells and driftwood, sailboats, regattas, sunsets, storms, or seagulls...
For me, it's less about depicting what I see than about what I experience. Therefore, I love to paint semi abstract maritime motifs, sometimes more, sometimes less. Sometimes it's the abstracted color scheme that works best for me to capture the emotional experience on canvas; sometimes it's varying degrees of dissolved forms, or a combination of both.
In this sense, I'm happy when I can combine art and nature in a painting – the result is usually vibrant, positive, and powerful maritime abstract paintings that invite you to take a mental trip to the sea.
